SOUDERTON, Pa., January 31, 2017 – Univest Bank and Trust Co., including its insurance and investment subsidiaries, recently announced it has made commitments totaling more than $350,000 to support Philadelphia nonprofit organizations over the course of 2017. Supporting the local communities it serves is a focus for Univest that plays a major role in its expansion efforts. In 2016, Univest donated more than $1.6 million across its service area and its employees contributed 17,600 volunteer hours.
Univest has been actively growing its support of Philadelphia nonprofits since entering the city in January 2015 through the acquisition of Valley Green Bank. This acquisition brought Univest its first three bank branches and its first loan production office in Center City. In 2016, Univest opened its fourth location in the Fairmount neighborhood and added its fifth location as a result of its acquisition of Fox Chase Bank this past July. Univest will continue its expansion with a location in University City slated to open in the first quarter of 2017.
“As we continue to expand our presence in Philadelphia, it is a priority to get involved and support the organizations making a difference in the local communities across the city,” said Jeff Schweitzer, president and chief executive officer of Univest Corporation. “Throughout our 140-year history, Univest has been committed to giving back. This year will be especially exciting as we work with some great organizations that are making Philadelphia a vibrant place to live, work and visit.”
Over the course of the year, Univest will announce several key partnerships to support education, health and wellness, social services, community and economic development. The first is its support of Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) a nonprofit organization that just finished celebrating 25 years of delivering programs and services to help people whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer. Univest is joining efforts with Einstein Healthcare Network and Whole Foods to enable the return of the popular Reach and Raise event. The annual event brings together an entire community on the famous steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum for a fun and healthy yoga practice appropriate for all levels. The event is scheduled for May 21 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information visit http://www.lbbc.org/programs-events/living-beyond-breast-cancers-reach-raise-philadelphia .
