SOUDERTON, Pa., May 1, 2017 – Last year, Univest Bank and Trust Co. created a Business Banking team to focus on serving smaller businesses in Greater Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley and appointed Hugh Connelly president of Business Banking. One year later, Univest’s support for small businesses continues to grow with the appointment of Jeff Pugh as vice president and SBA program officer whose team can provide loans of up to $5 million for local businesses. While this week marks National Small Business Week, Univest has initiatives planned for the entire month to help small businesses gain access to educational opportunities while also recognizing one of its customers, Greener Ways, LLC, for being selected as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania Small Business Exporter of the Year.

Univest has been offering SBA loans for more than 40 years and was designated a Preferred Lender, the highest status in the SBA, in 1994. Now, with the creation of this niche SBA lending team, even more small businesses are benefiting from Univest’s SBA lending expertise.

To lead the team, Univest Bank and Trust Co. recently appointed Jeff Pugh as vice president and SBA program officer. Pugh has more than 27 years of SBA expertise and is a past recipient of the SBA’s Financial Service Champion of the Year Award. With access to capital being the number one challenge for many small businesses, Pugh, together with Dan Yocum, SBA administrator for Univest, will focus on meeting this need for local businesses through SBA loans of up to $5 million which offer borrowers more collateral flexibility, longer loan terms and no prepayment penalties on loans with term under 15 years.

Local businesses participating in Univest’s SBA loan program are already realizing success. Nominated by Univest’s Yocum, Greener Ways, LLC, was selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Eastern Pennsylvania District Office as the Eastern Pennsylvania Small Business Exporter of the Year. Since 2003, a dozen other Univest customers have been honored as top-performing SBA program participants including Perkiomen Motorcoach, Solar Atmospheres, Inc., Leidy’s, Inc., Clemmer Moving and Storage and Byers’ Choice, LTD.

“My team’s goal is to help local businesses grow. This isn’t a transactional business, it is about relationships. This is why we’ve invested in a team of experienced lenders who can build relationships with business owners and serve as advisors and we’re proud to continue growing our investment in resources to fuel small business growth,” explains Hugh Connelly. “We live, work and raise our families in these communities so we have as much to gain as our customers. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and we want to be the bank of choice to help them achieve their business dreams.”
