Cyclosportif, New 5K Run Encourage Greater Community Participation in Univest Grand Prix
Families, Runners to Enjoy First-Time Opportunity on Famed Race Courses in Souderton and Doylestown
SOUDERTON, Pa., August 18, 2010 – A modified Cyclosportif course in Souderton and a new 5K Fun Run in Doylestown give fans even more opportunities to participate in the 2010 Univest Grand Prix weekend while supporting the Penn Foundation's efforts to provide behavioral healthcare to those in need.
The 2010 Cyclosportif will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 on the new 3.8 mile finishing course for the Univest Grand Prix. Families and non-competitive cyclist will get the chance to ride several laps on the challenging circuit while more experienced cyclists can challenge themselves to complete a maximum 11 laps over a two-hour period before the start of North America's most prestigious Pro-Am cycling competition.
The new Univest Grand Prix 5K Presented by The Intelligencer will be held Sunday, Sept. 12 after the Univest Criterium of Doylestown on a modified version of the 1.4 mile course encircling the popular Doylestown Arts Festival.
"Growing the activities around the pro race for the benefit of the community is what makes this weekend so popular for local families, while also attracting tourists from other parts of the country," said race organizer John Eustice, president of Sparta Cycling, Inc.
"We have a great weekend planned which provides a little something for everyone - a ride in Souderton and now a run in Doylestown," Eustice added. "Presenting opportunities for children and adults to be active and get involved in life-long sports like cycling and running is an important part of living a healthy life - a message we deliver through school visits and educational talks in conjunction with the race. Our hope through bringing two recreational activities together is that some multisport athletes will try to do both."
