Univest Corporation Awards $5,000 to Vets for Vets as Winner of Second Annual Caring for Community Giveaway

SOUDERTON, Pa., January 7, 2014 Univest Corporation today announced Vets for Vets as the winner of the second annual Caring for Community Giveaway, a contest that awards $5,000 to a local, nonprofit organization.  Groups were nominated for the prize through the Univest Facebook page. Of the nearly 10,000 votes submitted for 95 organizations over the course of the contest, Vets for Vets received the most posts on its behalf, earning the group the $5,000 prize.  Vets for Vets mission is to support veterans during their readjustment from military to civilian life by providing transitional housing as well as educational and employment opportunities.

 

“We are honored and excited to be the winner of Univest’s Caring for Community Giveaway. With the recent renovation of our transitional housing in Pennsburg, the $5,000 could not have come at a better time,” said Jason Leone, staff sergeant in the United States Air Force National Guard and founder of Vets for Vets.  “We are grateful to the community and our Facebook family for rallying around this contest.”

Through its Committed to Local program, Univest’s total support to the community in 2013 was more than $1 million and Univest employees volunteered more than 16,700 hours. Univest Corporation’s Caring for Community Giveaway is open to all legal residents of the United States. Participants may post to the Univest Facebook page the organization they support. The winner will be determined by the most posts, and the organization must also meet Univest Corporation’s grant giving standards and contest rules. The winning organization cannot be a previous Univest Corporation Committed to Local contest winner. We request only one organization name per post. The winning organization will be contacted via phone or email. The contest runs from Monday, December 2, 2013 through Monday, December 30, 2013 at 8:00 a.m. In the event a winning organization cannot be reached and/or does not respond by 5:00 p.m. January 6, 2014, they forfeit the grant to the next organization with the most posts.
