Univest Bank and Trust Co.℠ Celebrates 135 Years of Community Banking with the Local Scoop And Race to Save
Univest continues tradition of building local partnerships
through this initiative connecting Rita's Water Ice, Alex's
Lemonade Stand Foundation and the American Bankers
Association
SOUDERTON, Pa., June 10,
2011 - Univest Corporation of Pennsylvania ( NASDAQ:
UVSP), parent company of Univest Bank and Trust
Co.SM, a full-service financial institution with 135
years of experience in delivering financial solutions including
personal and business banking, online banking, residential
mortgages, insurance
products, investment and wealth advisory solutions*, today
announced the Local Scoop, a summer celebration to commemorate its
135th anniversary in partnership with Rita's Water Ice and Alex's
Lemonade Stand Foundation . In addition, Univest is seeking to
boost summer savings as a participating bank for the challenge put
forth by the American Bankers Association to open 15,000 savings
accounts by year end.
While Rita's and Alex's Lemonade
Stand Foundation may not seem like organizations with a natural tie
to Univest, there is one thing each has in common - their
commitment to youth in our community. Whether it's providing water
ice to the local baseball team, helping a child successfully hold a
lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer, or teaching
children about the importance of saving and giving back, children
are at the heart of this anniversary celebration.
So what's in store at the Local Scoop? Univest is inviting the
community to visit nine Rita's Water Ice locations in Bucks and
Montgomery counties and provide a special $1.35 discount for kids
12 and under**. Univest's employees will help serve Rita's Italian
ice for guests, offer giveaways and 10% of the proceeds will be
donated to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated
to finding better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood
cancer. The participating stores include Chalfont, Collegeville,
Doylestown, East Greenville, Harleysville, Newtown, Perkasie,
Quakertown and Royersford.
"I am proud to live and work in such a generous community," said
Lisa Feldman, owner of the Rita's Water Ice in
Perkasie. "We were thrilled when Univest approached us with
this idea because we already have a passion for helping to raise
money for Alex's Lemonade Stand. Each June, Rita's stores raise
money for childhood cancer. We welcome donations for Alex's
Lemonade Stand Foundation and our store has ranked in the top three
out of more than 550 participating stores for the past three
years."
In addition to Univest representatives on site, patrons will
have the opportunity to interact with Alex's Lemonade Stand
Foundation Hero Ambassadors in Chalfont, Collegeville,
Doylestown, East Greenville, Newtown and Perkasie. The Hero
Ambassadors share their personal stories and experiences with
childhood cancer while also educating and connecting families to
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
"We are thrilled to have Univest join us in the fight against
childhood cancer," said Liz Scott, mom of foundation creator
Alexandra "Alex" Scott. "We feel that the efforts of local
communities and supporters like Univest are of utmost importance to
helping us achieve our goal - a cure for all kids affected by
cancer."
Children attending the Local Scoop events will also be invited
to Race to Save with Univest. Univest joined efforts with the American Bankers Association this
year as they challenge banks to open 15,000 children's savings
accounts to celebrate 15 years of Teach Children to Save. To help
meet this challenge, Univest is offering incentives for children
opening eaglet savings accounts between June 13 and September 30.
Through the Race to Save campaign, children opening a savings
account with $100 or more will receive an "I Save With My Friends
at Univest" t-shirt***, children who save $500 or more by December
31 will receive a pair of plush Buck and Penny eaglets**** and
children who save $1,350 or more by December 31 will get $25
deposited into their account*****.
"We're proud to achieve this milestone and celebrate 135 years
in business with the communities we serve." said K. Leon Moyer,
president and chief executive officer of Univest Bank and Trust
Co.SM "As we celebrate, we are pleased to have the
opportunity to partner with local organizations who share the same
desire to give back. Together, we are making a difference in the
lives of our future leaders by teaching them how to help other
children in need and save for a bright future."
