Where Does Money Come From?
Money doesn't grow on trees like Brother and Sister Bear used to think before Mama and Papa taught them about money management. Money also isn't made in banks.
The United States government makes the money. All of our coins are made by the United States Mint. It is the job of the United States Mint to produce enough coins for the nation to conduct its trade and commerce. In recent history circulating coin production has varied between 11 billion and 20 billion coins annually. Paper money is made by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. They print billions of dollars for delivery.
These government agencies are headquartered in Washington, D.C., our nation's capital. After the money is made, it gets sent through the Federal Reserve System to the Federal Reserve Bank. The Federal Reserve Bank was founded by the United States Congress in 1913 to provide the nation with a safer, more flexible and more stable financial system. Banks, like Univest National Bank and Trust Co., get their money from the Federal Reserve Bank so they can serve the public and their customers with financial needs.
